ok Im sorry for if this is a stupid question but I'm learning. There's the motors(3), the power supply for the motors, the driver, the power supply for the driver. Is that it? What's a breakout board? |

| two types of motor driver configs: 1. Breakout board + 3 driver boards. A breakout board is a board that connects to the computer by parallel port. it then buffers the signals and sends them to the individual driver boards that attach to the Controller Board (breakout board) 2. Hobby CNC, Mechatronics, and TB6560 chinese boards, and others, are "all-in-one" boards. They contain everything in one single board.

| The thing with break out boards, is you need 2 power supplies, or anyway to get 5v. Here's a good tutorial on how this person wired up a breakout board with some driverboards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tzr-QSPzTM he has two power supplies, one that outputs 5v for the breakout board, and the other that powers the motors

| if you have 4 wire motors, then get the Mechatronics board since it's pre-made and it can use both 6wire and 4 wire. but since i had 6 wire, i still chose the hobbycnc since it had better performance. you can not use 4 wire motors with the hobbycnc board, so if you have 4 wires, get the mechatronics.

| It's $60 for the 36 volt one. $43 for the 24v One of my local electronics stores has the 24v for $112.. UGH I checked on ebay, and this person (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...=STRK:MEWNX:IT)has the same 36v one for $35Canadian (includes shipping) from china. I'm in the process or ordering one, (once i get paypal sorted out). Seems like the better deal. This power supply will work on both the video's set up, AND the HobbyCNC board, since the HCNC board can take between 24v and 42v, and 4 stepper motors at 3amps max each = 12amps, but motors dont always use 100% of the rated amperage, so the 10Amp power supply is good.
