Bad power supply?

Hi,

I purchased a 24vdc 15a switching power supply from a vendor on ebay, after it arrived I wired it up and checked the voltage from v+/v- and it only reads 12v. I checked to make sure the 110/220 switch was set right (it was set to 115 ?) and verified the wall voltage (122v), so as far as I can tell everything is set right but I get half the voltage advertised.

There is no manufactured or model number on the supply, the only hint this is the right supply comes from a tiny label on the box that reads #9275844#A15*1*3*24V15A, there is also a bar code 986250142 which google finds it here DC 24V 15A Switching Power Supply Transformer Regulated which is actually the company I purchased it from.

The company refunded my money and told me *not* to return the item, so I opened it up to take a look. Nothing seems out of place, but there are no model numbers or identifying marks on the inside either. My guess is that these are made in a factory that also makes 12v supplies and they stuck the wrong one in the box, is there anything in particular I could look for to test this theory?

Any hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,
GrumpyGeek

Did you try adjusting it. The pot is right on front and says adj.

Yes, by adjusting the pot. I can get it up to ~14.8v, that's a wee bit short of 24v

Sorry, misread. Thought you bought a 15VDC. Got the wrong one for sure. Hit me up if you want to trade, i'll look around here, i had a bunch of 24VDC ones and I needed 12-15 VDC for my airplane chargers.

Draw some current from it. Some supplies don't regulate without a load.

It's definitely either mislabeled or just plain faulty. I have that same one (well, the correct 24V/15A one) from the same company and it shows 24VDC out with nothing but a multimeter hooked up to it.

Did yours arrive in nothing but its white cardboard box inside a Pri mail envelope? I was not terribly pleased with their packing or their delivery time - took 15 days to get mine. I'd have been right over the top they sent me the wrong item. At least they refunded you, beats the alternatives for sure.

I ordered mine from a company that shipped from within the US, it arrived in 2 days, but was shipped in a priority mail envelope with no additional padding, just the white box you mentioned. The back left corner was bent, but that is an easy fix. At least it was an easy refund, still looking for another one to order, trying to find a different model/make, may just drop down to 10A which should be more than enough to drive 4 270oz motors.
