Help required. Measuring motor size for ones needs.

Can anyone out there help me out with a calculation to measure motor size for project needs. Like all of you I would like to build a mini mill, however I do not want to buy to large or to small of a motor for CNC needs.
Is there a calculation to work out size?

This forum is for Little Machine Shop CNC machines. I would suggest asking this question in a forum more likely related to what you are looking for, like the General Electronics forum, or, if you are talking about a stepper or servo motor (hard to tell by what you posted), then either the Stepper or Servo forum.

Thanks guys for your help. I am new to cnczone and with so many subjects in CNC zone I was finding it difficult to pick the right area for my question. I will look in the areas as suggested by yourselves.

Thank guys. I have just downloaded the Kollmorgen Motionengineering program. I just taken a quick look and what I see might do the job. At first sight the program just takes in information like the size of leadscrew/drag on slide and the length it will tavel and in return it should tell me the size of motor I will need. Have I got this right guys? Is this what it will do for me. If that what is does and I will be happy as a pig in mud or close to it.
Al, I have not looked at the other programs you have put me onto, however over the weekend I will find time. Only have time of a weekend to download emails and view sights.

yep, Motioneering will do as you say and pick a sample correct size motor for you. you can then enter YOUR motor data in a different screen to see how it fits with your mechanical data, but that is not usually required since it tells you what speed, what continuous and what peak torque you need as well as recommends inertia range.
