| Sorry, another capacitor question. I'm collecting parts for my PS for a gecko/ametek setup and have the following question for .......those a heck of a lot more knowledgable than I am!!! I just recently captured some ametek dc motors, model 000196, 30v, which are labeled 1a. Most likely, from what I've read, they will pull approximately 10a, thus the label copy is a code of some sort. I have a 24V txfmr at (guesstimating 20a) and want to use a 3900uf capacitor at 400V (electrolytic) for filtering. The capicator value is about 1/3 of what it should be and I guess my question is, is it adequate or should I trash it and purchase another one??? I have a duplicate I can parallel for 7800uf total but the size becomes an issue. Any help will be appreciated. BTW, I'm going to install the less expensive us digital encoders on the back of the motors. According to the lit, they should work OK. Any comments. Thanks. billyjack |

| New is my recomendation http://www.mouser.com/?Ne=100&handle...category&N=294C = (80,000 * I) / V Be sure to use a capacitor with a voltage rating at least 20 percent higher than the output voltage.

Buy a new capacitor with a voltage rating more in line with your power supply voltage, but make sure that the capacitor rating voltage is approximately 10 volts greater than the power supply voltage. You do need some voltage safety factor. A lower voltage capacitor will save you lots of valuable space. |
