Vexta driver/one direction?

Hello everyone long time lurker first time posting.

Im have been gathering parts to build a cnc mill for over a year now. Its been a very cool journey so far.

But hit my first wall. Im using new vexta DFR1507A drivers running in (P1 mode) and PK545-NAA motors. The breakout board I have is the XYDrive (XD14).

Im using mach3 and have read the pdf file, the drivers manuals and also the BOB's info.

For the life of me I cant get the motor to spin in more then one direction only. It turns really smooth and quick (running the road runner file in mach 3 to test) but only turns in one direction in X. Im only running one axis/motor to get a feel of things.

The problem I think is that im not fully understanding the hook up of the BOB to the driver.

Since there is only 2 wires to play with one for direction and one for pulse Im not sure what to do.

I have noticed on many pictures i seen of vexta drivers the top 4 (screw/pins?) are always filled.

How is this done with only 2 wires? Am I supposed to bridge connections or something with the pulse and direction pins?

I dont want to mess anything up. Is it that the BOB is not suitable for these drivers?

I attached a pic of the driver and a printout of the BOB... can someone please help me with the proper wire configuration?

If it makes it easier to take my picture and open it up in MS-Paint to draw on top of it and re-post it that's cool too.

Thanks so much!!

( Forgot to add.... my power supply is 24 volt 5 amp )

Here is a link....

http://www.otkon.com.tr/files/pdf/or...rfk-series.pdf

Take a look at pages B161 and B162.

The inputs for step (pulse) and direction may make sense to you then.

The inputs on your driver are opto-isolated, and so you will have one wire with your signal, and one wire to ground for each input. The resistor (R) they show in the connection wire to the controller is only needed if the controller's output voltage is higher than 5 volts. Your BOB should drive it just fine directly as it is 5 volts. If the wires are short from your BOB to the drivers, they do not need to be twisted pair. The ground that the -PLS and -CW/CCW connect to is the ground on your BOB.

Very nice drivers and motors!

Enjoy
Steve

Thank you so much Steve! That's fantastic! They are going good now.

For the life of me I just couldn't get it based on what I i read.

I typically try to figure things out in a jam, but in this situation the last thing I needed to see so early in this adventure was the magic smoke being released into the living room LOL

Its really nice of you to help me out. Many people in life don't have patience for noobs

I have many years of 3d modeling experience, but fairly limited electrical knowledge.

Now that I can confidently hook these up and test them out.... i can play around with settings and (even if in a limited way) see if I can figure out the drivers settings for stepping/halfstep and so on.

Also possibly find a way to use the 2 step angles on the driver and if mach 3 can switch them for me... on the fly.

LOL this is coming from a guy that don't have a mill.... yet, just a bunch of cool parts i managed to save some money and took me over a year to collect.

So many peoples works here have inspired me to build a desktop mill (aside of the fact they cost so much to buy that are serious jewelry prototype / odd mixed metal ready)

I almost got everything I need part wise, just need to finalize how i will/can design it. (I don't have a huge metal shop at my disposal) So have no other option other then to get some company to build it for me possibly using my solidworks file for the specs/parts fabrication.

Fingers crossed!

Mike,

I am wiring my BOB to my drivers and cannot open the link that was sent to you on your earlier post. I have an XY drive XD14 that I am wiring to my 5 phase vexta drivers UDK5114NA. I want to make sure I wire them properly and was wondering if you could help.

Rich
