Unhappy Power and stepper questions

Ok with my last thread and the help you guys have given me there I think I am going to modify my transformer by removing some of the secondary windings to reduce the output voltage from 80V. It is an antek supply, it says it is 1000W, and 12A.

If I remove secondary windings, do I need to do both sets? There are two output sets in parallel that go to the rectifying board.

Also I am not sure how much I want to reduce the voltage to. I might keep the http://www.kelinginc.net/KL23H286-20-8B.pdf motors that I have now. I am just worred about how much this will affect performance and if I should just get some different motors. I plan on using the steppers on a Fireball V90 and maybe later upgrading to Joe's 4x4.

Will the motors I have now, http://www.kelinginc.net/KL23H286-20-8B.pdf work well with the Fireball V90? 80 volts is kind of pushing it on the Gecko and that is the primary reason I want to reduce the voltage. How much should I reduce it by?

Thanks for reading all of this.

Buy me a Beer?

If they are being used in parallel with each other then yes, hopefully they are wound bifilar (both winding together) then you need to remove both together.
You can either remove a known number and recheck the voltage or as mentioned in a previous post, wind a small conductor winding on of say, 10 turns and measure it to get the turns/volt required.

Hi bead. Welcome to the Zone!

First, if you measure your 80V PSU under load of all three motors, you'll find a Voltage drop to around 77V. Second, unlike other drivers, a Gecko is BUILT to operate at its max Voltage--You don't have to baby it. Unless it's a G540, the 80V PSU should be fine just the way it is.

The 83V 425s are overkill on a Fireball V90, but should do real well on a 4x4.

CR.
