Diode value.

I have a shorted diode out of a Yaskawa Varispeed 616GII inverter. The diode is grey with a thick yellow stripe for the cathode and a thin yellow stripe on the body. Does anyone have any info on the possible value? I believe it to be a zener. Thanks in advance. There are no further markings.

Buy me a Beer?

With that excellent description, I could take a guess.

I tend to agree.

hotrob1- You're promoting a professional looking repair website, but that is the best you can do describing the diode? What does the schematic say? Is it a PSU control regulator diode or in another part of the circuit? What are the rated voltages of caps etc around the diode? Have you bought or built an adjustable zener to connect to the circuit and test operaton? Do you have any organised step by step repair procedure with shorted zeners?

I don't want to sound mean but if your idea of pro repair is to find a shorted diode and then start asking internet strangers what value it is then that's not a good sign...

Ouch.

Well if I had the schematic I wouldn't be asking such a 'simple' question. The diode is on a YPHT31020-1 board. It is tied into the bus circuit and will not allow the display to come up. I will double check some cap values and go from there.

I thought some 'internet strangers' may be familiar with the diodes marked with a blue, red, or yellow stripe as opposed to the standard ones. Not a problem since I do have a professional looking repair website, I'll handle it. I'll let you get back to the 'tougher' questions..............

Well, it should be a 44V zener diode.

Generally, yellow stands for '4', and the 'thick yellow stripe' is for tens, the other 'thin yellow strip' is for units, so the voltage is 44V.
