DC Servo ?

I have a SEM MT30 that was used as a spindle motor on my Dyna DM3000 lathe. Originally I gutted the electronics. After looking over the various pieces and moving all of the motion control responsibilities to a Gecko G540 and reusing the 48vdc @ 4.5 controller power supply. That is all working fine including the tool changer and limit switches. I have come to the conclusion that I could reuse the motor, power supply and spindle driver. The output signal for a (VFD or PWM?) of the G540 (0-10v) could be used in place of the pots connection on the spindle driver board (or so I think). Btw the spindle did operate prior to my disassembly. This motor has a supply transformer wired to 110vac. It is a 148vdc motor. Does this transformer up the voltage possibly? I see a rectifier, relay and some form of amplifier on the original equipment. I am also assuming that this is converting the AC to DC? (I am not sure about the amplifiers role either). If the above is true, is speed controlled by supply voltage (a variance in the 148vdc)? or some other means? I would like to reuse some of the parts and learn their circuitry and ability to interface if possible. Dont need any real power increase or anything. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Buy me a Beer?

If the secondary is 110v then the DC will be ~150vdc, The fact you have a DC supply indicates that it is not an SCR drive so it possibly a PWM servo drive was used for the spindle, the analogue ±10vdc input can be used in place of the pot.
There most likely is a tach on the SEM motor so make sure you get the polarity right otherwise the motor will run uncontrollably when you first hook it up.

Al thanks so much for the reply. I havent really researched it much yet and dont know the parts but pictures will follow I am sure. John
