hi
no problem
export in obj or dae or fbx, convert in stl (deep exploration,...), import in any cam software (visualmil for example)
Hi,
I am very interested in getting into creating things on a CNC machine. I have an extensive background in 3D model creation for television and film, and so I am wondering about the different CAD CAM softwares.
are there any that can import files coming from software such as maya?
so file formats like .OBJ? or collada files .DAE ?
are there any CAD CAM softwares that can use polygon models? or is everything NURBS based?
has anyone found a workflow of building your objects in maya or some other hi end 3D package and exporting it to a CAM software for tool pathing and G-Code generation?
I really want to get going with the CNC thing, and id really like to be able to import my 3D files from maya into a CAD CAM package.
any help, greatly appreciated
thanks
Jim

Hi there mate,
Did you have any luck I with your work flow from Maya to finished model?
Very interested in your work flow on this as I've planned to do the same for two years,
Just about to invest in a cnc setup as well so if you interested in sharing tips etc. would be great...
There's not many people doing this and there is a way to do it.

The free "multitool" plugin will allow recent versions of Maya to export STL files; from there it's easy to generate toolpaths using DeskProto, VisualMill, or other CAM software packages.
