    how to control DC motor

    I have DC glentek motor about 2.6 KW
    and I need explanation how to connect it to a control board
    that I can move it by pulses to move any distance that I need

    Thats around a 3.5hp motor.
    Do you just just need a positioning device? Stand alone or PC, Operator interface?
    What is the application?

    thank you for replay
    I have a big mill that I would like to put a motor
    in the place of the handle
    I does not wants to put computer
    i just need stand alone device for run it positionning
    and I need also the option to move fast like start and stop

    Without using a PC, I would use a single axis stand-alone Galil controller, the legacy models can be had relatively cheap, especially for 1 axis.
    You would need a Jog Joystick, a pulse handwheel and a selector switch.
    Also a Drive amplifier and DC power supply suitable sized, this may be hard to come by in the surplus market, something like A-M-C put out.
