    Fanuc 3M controller communication settings

Having trouble getting an '83 Mycenter 1 Kitamura with a 3M controller to communicate (transfer in-out) with lap-top. Regular operator is out on a medical and no one seems to recall the baud-rate, parity, etc.,. I have tried every combination ( but the right one) and the manuals don't have a thing in them about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kentsui

If you PUNCH the program, does the laptop receive anything (even garbage)? This would tell you if the cable is wired correctly. It may be easier to adjust the RS232 parameters on the laptop end. Usually it's better to start by punching because the laptops are more forgiving. What communications program are you using?

    dcoupar,
    Thanks for the reply.
Yep, I can get some of the code to send from the laptop and I know we have succesfully sent/received hundreds of time with the same laptop and cable but we have 8 different controllers and the settings for send are always changed . I thought the Kitamura was a 24000 none /7/1 setup like another Kitamura we have ( with a newer controller) but no-dice, and I have tried it in as many combinations as I could dream up. Most of the combinations result in giberish garbage, but at 4800/none/7/1 xon xoff it seems like it is trying and will usually transfer the program number and maybe a line or two. Plenty of slots and memory too. We use Codeshark to send/rcv code on this laptop and it has worked fine in the past. Tuesday my lead man on the CNC floor ( I am the owner) had a heart attack at 40 and is out for a long while. We always kept the settings posted on the side of the controllers and on a notepad file in the laptop...but apparently somebody figured my way was boring and the labels have been removed and the laptop settings file deleted. So, I'm trying to re-figure-out a lot of stuff I knew 10 years ago but have turned over to others and delted that space off my brain for other stuff ( should have made a backup of my brain!).
    Anyway, thanks for the response.

I believe parameter # 0069 is baud rate if I/O=1.

    Kevin and decoupar
Thanks for your reply. I'll go check out that post.
I did scroll through the parameters but I didn't recognoze anything at first glance. I don't have a parameter page for that controller but I'll go line-by-line and see if I missed something.

I appreciate the input from both of you.

Thanks for the input Kevin...you're right, it is punctuation sensitive for sure.
I seemed to be getting better results and when I came back in yesterday my laptop that I use to transfer had died...if it aint one thing...it's another. Seems like when you chase a problem for 3-4 days something always seems to break you away from it before you can finish and then you start back over again!
Hopefully I will be able to post a success soon though. I was able to transfer from a 6m no problem but the older 3m is just giving me fits. same thing on my A2100 too...it just will not send/rcv. Sounds like a weekend of quiet time while all the workers are home till I get some joy.
    Thanks again for your thoughts.

    Fanuc 3M comm settings

I have a Fanuc 3M and my settings are: com 1 (yours could be com2), 7 with 2 stop bits, even parity, 4800 baud rate. Hope this helps.
