TNC 155 Dripfeed from laptop

Hi,

I am trying to dripfeed my Mikron w. TNC 155 from my Acer laptop, with poor results...
Since the computer don't have a serial port I bought a cardbus adapterDeLOCK > Products > PCMCIA > 61622 Delock PCMCIA adapter, CardBus to 1 x serial that, according to the seller, should work.
Somehow the machine don't like this adapter or my cable. If I connect everything I'm able to send a program to the machine memory but if I try to run the program with the cable connected, the machine stops at some point until I remove the cable. Dripfeeding is the same, everything look good and the machine starts, a few seconds later it just stops.
I don't think that the settings are wrong since I can send a program, remove the cable and then run it. It must be something to do with this adapter or the cable.
I've also tried a "USB to serial"-cable with the same results.

Please help me, I really want to use my laptop for this. Are someone else using this kind of adapter?

I am no expert, but you can go into your driver control setting and slow down the card (wrong term Im sure) I know when I had a similar problem thats what worked for me. Fool around with speeds and settign Ill bet you will get it working. BTW I had no luck with USB to serial cables, I guess they do work but the 2 different ones I had didnt.

In your original post you mentioned that you were able to send data to the
machine but when you try to run dripfeed or have larger programs you
have problems.

Since you are able to send some programs, you have the correct baud(speed)
and parity set.

The control to laptop communications are most likely carried out in RS-232.
This protocol not only needs the baud and parity set (you've done this already)
you also need to configure "flow control" which is the way the systems
handshake - aka tell each other when and how much data to send.

Flow control is either software or hardware driven, and your serial card
and NC should have ways to set which one you want to use. SInce your
lartop does not have a native RS232 serial port, your card is probably able
to work with hardware flow (which I think your NC is doing). Hardware flow control is carried out with a RS232 cable thats wired DCE (pin outs for h/w flow)

You also need to configure begining transmission and end transmission
(stop/start bits) as well a end of communication singnals. This is why you cant
run with unplugging your cable, the NC doesn't know the communication is complete.

Look in your doc's and work on tuning flow control, and stop/start transmission signaling.
