Problem- Boss 8 Bridgeport Mill series II

Ok, I am trying to get the mill to execute a very small g code text so later I hope to drip feed it. The name of the text file is 1234.txt and the first line in the file is :1234 . I cannot get the Boss to load the file. I am sure I am sending to the Boss because I have Leds (with resistors) on the serial cable to show data traffic.

Com 1
Baud 300 (so I can see the lights blink when I send a file)
Data bits 7
Parity none
Stop bits 2
Flow Control xon xoff

I get a serial led light from the Boss when I turn power on. The Boss has been set to 300 baud on serial ports A and B. I connect the serial port on the computer to B on the Boss . The small LCD display on the Boss displays:


1) Wait
2) > Enable Axis Drives (I depress Axis Drive Enable button)
3)Move ZXY Home > Execute (I depress Execute button and the table goes home)
4) Boss 81 II (C) 1984 Textron Inc
5) I depress the Load Clear Edit button and get three choices and need to push number 0 or 1 or 2.

6) Load 0 Ptr 1 Dnc 2 Rem
Pressing 0 and then Execute cuts power to axis drives and produces the message Enable Axis Drives again
Pressing 1 and Execute produces Load DNC where what ever you enter produces Load DNC : (your entry).D
Pressing 2 and Execute produces Load Rem 0 From Rem 1 to Rem ( I select 0 and press Execute and produce
Load Rem:_ where any entry produces Load Rem: (your entry) . F

I have followed the manual to delete all programs and tool sets and still get the F.

So here is where I am stuck.
the machines talk but I get a dead end.
What do you think?
