How's everyone doing? I'm using Gibbs, but it doesn't have Mill/Turn. Until my company Gets its upgrade or chooses another CAM package, I would like to know a couple things. 1.)When to use G42 or G41. 2.)Are the speeds/feeds on the lathe the same as would be used on a milling machine? It seems to run so much slower. 3.)To mill a hex, we use G112/G113 to start/cancel respectively. To turn other shapes, is there a dedicated G-code, or does G112 lock the machine in a general shape milling cycle? Are there other G-codes to mill other shapes. Also, there is no Y-axis. Just C-axis, so I know I'm limited, But I'd like to know what my options are. Thanks in advance for any advice.

We got a C-axis hardinge lathe at our work, What sort of shapes are you wanting to do? Depending on the difficulty of the shape will determine how you would go about machining it. For our machine I just draw the pic in autocad, plot the co-ordinates and program them into the machine.... 1 of the jobs I made at our work, Programmed the contour for the large portion, machined it using a woodruff cutter, machined the front end with a 3/16 end mill I think, 2 different sized squares on the end.....

Right now we're machining a similar part, milling-wise. A flange in a rectangular shape like the large end of your part with smaller radii. I'd also be interested in the front end of your part with the slot through it. Would it be possible to see a sample of the program used for the C-axis? Thanks
