Need Help!- Connect Heidenhain 145 to laptop

Hi,

i want to connect a Heidenhain 145 control to a laptop (windows 98 on laptop), just so i can save programmes and load them.

Is this possible and what do i need, ie what type of cable and what software do i need?

Go to the Heidenhain website and download the connections manual for the control and the software which is all free.

am i right in thinking i need to download and install TNCremo and the windows installer?

I can't see the connections manual anywhere though.

You need the TNCremoNT software.

have got the software and the data interfaces information.

However, all that information is doing my head in!! There are a number of things that i dont understand, When looking at setting TNCremo up it looks like i have to enter an ip address for the controller?? Is this correct, if so how do i find that out?

Before that though i need to know what cable to get made up. Ive looked through the data interfaces manual and just confused myself again, there appears to be different versions of the same cable for the same controller!! What is for example a hardware handshake or a software handshake?

The cable i need connects the machine control (RS232) to the serial port on the laptop, which i assume is a 25 pin plug to a 9 pin plug. Can anyone point me in the direction of a layout for this type of cable please.

The cable layouts should be in the interface manual.

They are, but i really cant understand what i want, there are 25 pin and 14 pin as well as 9 pin all with a software or a hardware hand shake, i will show them to the guy tomorrow who will make me the cable and see if he can make sense of them,
