Controller Delima

I bought a Lagun Lagunamatic 310 with a Dynapath 20 Controller. The Machine appears to be in good condition but the was not running when purchased. A ME friend came over and helped me look at the control panel/ wiring diagram. Everything appeared OK so I bought a display board (about $800) and plugged it into the machine screen lit up once and I was unable to get the machine to run (might have been my ignorance of CNC). Friend came back over and now the display is dead again.
I am afraid of spending a lot of money (it's a hobby machine) and not having a functional machine would you keep trying to reseurect a dead controller or move on to a new control?
This machine has Baldor servo motors on it, is there anyso what cntroller would you recommend?

Thanks,

Dynapath 20

The Dynapath 20 was a pretty good control with lots of nice features like bolt hole pattern assist etc. There are still lots of them out there in daily use. Depending on what part of the country you're in, it might be best to send it to someone who has parts for repair. Parts 'n Smarts comes to mind, but there should also be some factory support. The Baldor servos are OK too and parts should be plentiful for them too.

Lagun probably won't be much help on something that old. They've used so many different controls and part time integrators over the years that they've lost track of what is out there.

When you say that the display "lit up once", do you mean it was correctly functioning or did it just flash when it was powered initially?

When you power the machine up, do both little red lights on the aux board come on? If so, then you have a boot failure which will prevent the display from powering up. Do you have the cabinet doors fully closed?

BTW, I would keep the original control. I've used both EMC and the Dynapath and prefer the Dynapath. Call Parts and Smarts or Dynapath. Both are extremely helpful.
