| Getting started with an Ultramill hello, I have an Ultramill 5000 w/ dynapath 20 control. I would like to import or draw 3d objects with autocad 2000, use an inexpensive cam program to create toolpaths, and use the Ultramill to cut them out of / into aluminum and iron. I am a beginner to CNC (6wks using a shopbot, doing essentialy what i described above, except I have been cutting wood and foam) and have no experience with the Ultramill. I do however have experience with many machine tools and am handy with a computer. Here are a few questions. 1. Based on the statement above, is my conceptual understanding reasonably correct. 2. Do all CAM programs produce "code" (if that is the word) that is universally recognized by CNC machinery. 3. If my request, draw 3d, make toolpaths with cheap cam, and cut metal with the Dynamill, is not unreasonable, could someone suggest a starting point for me. Thank You James Galvin |
