%$@*^!! Yasnac on a Hitachi

Ok, I give up. Book is as clear as mud. I can get the Z zero set on the end of the part, but cannot get the X anywhere close. Well, got it to within about 50 thou once. I have a tool setter, which gets the tool to about 1 1/8 above the part. Try doing the best with the book on manual tool offset setting and.........*. Can't even find a screen to adjust for tool wear either, at least not what I am used to. All thoughts welcome!

What are you trying to qualify? Tool, or Drill?

Sounds to me like you're trying to qualify a drill on X?

Oh yeah...

To get to a Tool Wear Offset screen on YASNAC LX-3 controls, hit the "OFS" button, and then the "TOOL WEAR" soft-key under the screen.

For regular manual offsetting, on the "OFS" screen, hit the "PST 1" soft-key. (The "OFS" button light will start flashing)

Select the tool you're qualifying by adding 50 to the tool number. (Tool 1 = 51, etc)

Touch the tool off at Z, and type in MZ0 and hit "WR", next touch the tool off on the X and type MX(Stock Diameter) (ie. MX2.750 or 2.75 stock size) then hit "WR"

Repeat with your other tools, then hit "PST 1" again to finish.

If you're qualifying a drill, the machine already assumes a center location number depending on the machine. (I'm learning this on a METHODS Slant 50 with YASNAC LX-3 Controls, and it's assumed center is 11.750)

Hope any of this helps, I'm trying to learn all of this myself right now.

My screen does not have the soft keys under it. The instruction manual says the same thing about the 'pst' key. No got!

I just checked the manual regarding the basic controls without the soft-keys, and it appears you don't need a PST key.

Page 167 of the Instruction manual says you only have to press the OFS key, page/cursor down to the tool to be offset, and then type in the axis data, and hit WR. It doesn't appear to even call for entering MZ0, you may be able to just enter "Z0", "WR" for Z, and "X(stock diameter)", "WR" for X.

Make sure the tool remains touched off when setting it, or else you'll get an off number.

Good Luck!

Been over that page a few times. Something still is not clicking (me or the machine, one of us has got to be a bit askew!). When touch the tool setter, the X axis number comes up a -x.xxx, when entering the measured value, it of course enters the value I give it, but still no difference in where the tool goes when moving it to cutting position (using MDI).

Are you entering the stock size for X?

The x.xxxx number should change once you hit "WR".

Perhaps it's the tool setter? Have you tried to do it completely manually without the setter? (Touching the tool directly to the stock using a piece of paper as a shim?)

You mentioned that you were only having problems with X, and that you had Z covered. Since you only have to touch off and use "0" for the Z number, it shouldn't be a issue. With X, you'll have to enter the stock size, and I suppose the tool setter dimensions as well in order for the system to calculate a correct offset.

I'm still trying to figure out how to correctly offset a drill bit, but as far as regular tools, it's worked out pretty good without a setter. I'm currently working with some 0.750 round, so it's straight forward enough just to enter X.750 and "WR" after touching off.

Again, I hope you get that thing figured out, it's bound to be a simple fix, but those tend to be the most elusive!

Agreed with the simple being the most elusive! Yes, I have made a small cut and measured, and entered that amount, the display reads what I type in, but doesn't seem to change the tool position, and definately not where I need it.
