Angry Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

This is wearing me OUT! every single cnc machine in our shop,
has went down with some type of electronic problem this summer,
two of them very difficult to troubleshoot.
I am really getting tired of breaking out the fluke.
the latest is on our mori dl-25 turning center, lost the fanuc
power supply. its the only machine in the shop that i did not
back up the parameters on DOH!

3 mori seki turning centers circa 1995
1 mori seiki 50 taper vmc circa 1985 (my fave)
3 fadal 4020 vmc's circa 1991 (imo sell em)
4 bridgeport toolroom mills various ages
4 romi bridgeport toolroom lathes various ages
1 bridgeport surface grinder circa 1996

ok i'm done whining and the boss is tired of spending big money,
feel my pain brothers, feel my pain.

da riverrat

Could be the electricity supplier. They don't guarantee 3 phase, but DO guarantee 2 phase. If you can monitor the 2 phase and see drop outs/ brown outs USING THE SAME MONITORING EQUIPMENT THAT THEY USE, then you can get them to stick another transformer in the area to boost the supply. I immagine you could get compensation too?

Get an expert in to do a COMPLETE inspection of the power grid in your shop.

We had some bizarre problems a year or two ago. Luckily, the guy who is an owner has a relative who is an electronics expert. He found a ground loop problem that the power company disagreed with. By dumb luck, I had shorted one leg of the 3 phase to ground and popped a fuse - I also fried the loose ground leg at the transformer which they then HAD to repair.

Problem solved.

It is hard, VERY hard to win an argument with the power company. However, if you have PROOF of lame power, chances are they will fix it if you make the proper stinks. You'd better make sure your wiring is up to shuff however.

LOTS of wiring issues are the result of kluged up wiring in one's building that is done by well intended but ill trained "experts".

Just as a matter of interest did you have an unusually hot summer?

our power is cool guys, right in there, although i'm sure we have some
harmonics from all of the dc. power supply's running.
the mori's are all on transformers going from 480 to 220 v, everything
else is on straight line power.
that being said, nothing wire wise has changed in the past 1 1/2 years.

geof,
no, just hot two weeks in august, pretty mild really.

we just got the power supply back from fanuc, they said it had a bad
relay, (icecube type) that would'nt stay pulled in.

da tired of chasin electrons, riverrat

Probably somebody got careless early in the year and said something like; "you know we haven't had any machines go down for a few years now....", tempting fate you know .
