Hello, Can anyone here help me with my jump drive usb problem.. ??? I'm trying to introduce a usb jump drive into my CNC workflow. I can't seem to get my 1999 POS computer to recognize my usb jump drive. The hard drive was replaced. I bought a new used hard drive from goodwill a few months back, which works fine. I think the USB drivers on the HD are not all there. I don't have a copy of windows 98se, so I can't reinstall. When I plug in a USB keyboard it works, so I know it's not the USB ports. I believe it's a drive problem. When I plug it into the back of my pc, it does nothing. The USB jump drive I'm using is (below). I've followed the online instructions and nothing seems to work. http://www2.pny.com/256MB-USB-20-FLA...-P1884C53.aspx For software I'm turboCNC and everything is controlled thru dos only. I'm running win98se and can't seem to figure this out. I'm a non pc guy, so please be easy on me. ![]() Chris |

| Hi if you have a COA for your POS (<Point Of Sale? ) You could legally "borrow" an install disc from a friend and reinstall....Win98 was so reliable after having not used it for 5 years I can still remember the serial number of mine lol

| Are you trying to use the jump drive through windows or dos? If windows, you have to install the correct drivers. If dos, again it is a driver problem. However this can be solved as there are a set of files in the turbocnc group over at youhoo with instructions on how to do it in dos. However, I have found the jump drive HAS to be inserted before booting. It will not hot swap. Works in my shop for Turbocnc and I have used a couple of different jump drives.

| I don't think win98 supports "USB 2.0" out of the box. USB 2.0, was done in 2001. I bet your pc has "USB 1.1" on it. Do like ger21 said get the drivers from the manufacture. Direct Link (driver/zip): http://www2.pny.com/support/media//F...r_Rev13_v1.zip You could have got a 1gb stick for $1.00 more than the one you bought? http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=5334256 . |

| "Hi if you have a COA for your POS (<Point Of Sale? )" Piece Of Sh*t. Sorry I should have been more clear. ![]() I'm using two computers in my workflow. One for designing (it being brand new and faster for ram preview), my second computer is to run Turbocnc . 1. Dell laptop (for designing and interpreting Gcode to CNC file) 2. POS Computer (to read the Gcode file and break it up for the steppers to my milling machine). Thanks guys I really appreciate the help! Last edited by twocik; 06-24-2007 at 04:03 PM. |

| Bubby "Are you trying to use the jump drive through windows or dos?" I would like to use it thru windows, but if I could use it thru DOS that would be great!! Ger21 "Try installing the driver for it. http://www2.pny.com/support/support_...=1057&TypeID=5" I've tried, but it asking me to open it with a program. I've tried a few that look like they could open it, but no go. I know this is really confusing. switcher I believe you're right, because I'm not having any luck at all with this machine. The driver that you recommended to use I'm not sure I'm installing it right. There's three files, first one says 1. musb6E.inf 2. PU20DISK.PDR 3. PU20SYSD.SYS |

| I am using the drivers for DOS from the yahhoo group and they have worked fine for the two different jump drives that I have. You have to read (then re-read) the instructions to get it to work. After about three times, I finally understood what they were saying and now all is well! Matter of fact, I can no longer boot to windows on that machine. It is strictly DOS and for a "hard drive" I use a CF card. solid state and haven't lost a drive in months like I was before. My shop is conditioned by whatever the weather is here (Cold and humid in the winter and Hot and humid in the summer:{(

| Bubba I'm only seeing the zip file, no instructions? I'm really a non-PC guy, is it really that hard to understand? I know alot about macs, but PC's are very new to me. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/turbocnc/files/Usb/ |

| Now here's something weird, in dos mode when I run Turbocnc, sometimes the mouse works and sometimes it doesn't. I never thought of maybe my hard drive might need to be clean up a little. There are files from the last owner still on there. I've delete little things like the internet files, icons, games, etc.., but didn't want to touch anything else. I'd really like to start from a fresh start with win98, but I don't own the program and can't find it anywhere. Any suggestions On a Mac we have a first aid option that will clean the HD, does a pc have anything like that? |

failing that a lot of PC vendors placed (stole your hard drive real estate) a separate restore partition on the drive and you could reinstall from there. All things being fair you shouldn't reinstall an OS you don't own ([invisible ink]I couldn't care less as I don't have shares in MS[/invisible ink]) the OS should be around $5 on ebay that way you get the diskette and the CD and bobs yer uncle and fanny's your uncles live in lover...< oh how the times have changed...she would have been your Aunt 20 years ago...admin needs to fix the invisible ink bb code

| This website will scan your pc, of your system drivers and compares those to a database of over 90,000 drivers to see if your system has the latest drivers. 1) http://driveragent.com/ 2) http://driveragent.com/faq.php (I havn't tried this, just found the website, might help). . |
