Hello, My name is Greg. I've been messing around with a CNC machine for the past few years and it's finally nearing completion.
You can see it here. http://www.edfinfo.com/x/temp/other.html
I have been using TurboCNC but just looked at EMC2 which seems to have much more capability, particularly realtime position feedback.
My question is, right now I'm using Geckos and it looks like EMC2 will run the machine as it is. Would it make sense to run the system with feedback of the encoder on the motor/ballscrew shaft? Can I even do that with Geckos? Which board do I need if not?
I'm also looking at CAM software. I've played with Meshcam and it seems to do what I want but is there anything out there around $1k that makes significantly better code for 3D countours? Last time I checked some of the softwares around a grand were no better than Meshcam as far as code, though they did have other features.
