The engineer draws solid models in inventor and would like to send the files to me to toolpath. I am running a Haas lathe with Surfcam. I dont think I can toolpath the file because there are no lines to chain, just construction lines. Even if I mesh the files I dont see how I can chain for toolpaths. Am I right? |

| Sorry for not seeing this post till now, but what your engineer needs to do is create a drawing from the solid. From this drawing he can export a DXF file. this you can bring into SurfCAM to generate your toolpath. I have done this many many times with no problems. Centerlines can be created in either application.

| Yeah, the day after I posted I found you have to buy the inventor translator option from surfcam! I also figured out to change an autocad dwg to dxf but cos I am using Acad 2007 and Surfcam 2005 they arent compatable so I had to save the dxf as a Acad 2004 file. Arent computers great! |
