Does anyone know of a CAD/CNC/CAM that handles more than 5-axis? I know Surfcam and Delcam can do upto 5-axis. If there are no 6-axis CNC software, then it would be useless for me to build a 6-axis cnc machine.

Actually, some guys may be able to help you, but you would need to describe what kind of motions you are trying to produce, as in how many simultaneous axis do you need, or are some of these like rotary indexers and the like.

What I am trying to do is 5-axis of simultaneous motion with a 6-th axis for a lathe. I want to mill furniture stuff. The legs of a table is probably one example of milling using 5-axis simultaneously with the 6th as a lathe table. Any software that will do more than 5 axis?

You may want to look at Tebis. I'm not 100% sure it has a 6th axis, but I seem to remember this when I reviewed it a couple of years ago.
Of course, my memory isn't what it used to be!
By the way, Tebis was $75,000 US per seat when I reviewed it. I don't know where the price is now.
Our company couldn't justify the price.

Hi George, I guess you should have a look at Mach 2 software for sure this handles 5 axis + tool changer. Since this is a configurable software maybe you can use this optioin for tool changer as your "sixth axis" if you would'nt be using it. At the moment I don't have the web site of this software at hand but as soon as I get my hands on it's manual I'll let you know.

I added a 6th axis to my router although only 5 are required to run at any one time and expanded the CNC Toolkit I developed to produce the G-Code. The router is controlled by Mach2.
If you give some examples of what you need routed and details of your axis arrangements I'll take a look
.

george check out camsoft who is an advertizer here on the zone. I don't know if you are going to use steppers or servos but if you are going steppers Ability Systems has a 8 axis controller. I am curious though why you would need 6 axis? If you have the xyz then the rotary table that rotates you would only need the head to rotate along the length of the part and still be able to do it with 5 axis.
I too am going to build a carving machine and would be interested in exchanging ideas. I manufacture rifle stocks and pistol grips and am goin to have to go cnc if I continue to try to compete. Most of my competitors who have the cnc use Fadals or Shoda multi head 4 axis routers. Both of those are out of my range.
