Hi all. I am getting started with NX5 manufacturing. I have a small milling machine with steppermotors which runs with emc. The default 3 axis postprocessor from NX doesn't output the code as emc wants it. So, I made my own postprocessor with postbuilder. But it doesn't always work. Does anyone have experience with the postbuilder tool? Is it a quality tool and am I doing something wrong? Or is it not worth the effort and easier to convert the CLSF code? Dirk |

| Hi Dirk, I'm not going to say Postbuilder is perfect, but it's a lot easier than writing TCL from scratch. What, exactly is the problem? Can you post a section of output you are getting, and the corresponding output how you want it to look? Even if you output CLSF data, you still have to post it into your machine's format. Be Well

| I figured it out! I made a postprocessor which also outputted a list file. This file was without any error. At some point I discovered that only the postprocessed files to a network drive had errors, while local files didn't. I used a network drive which shares data between the EMC system and the windows pc. Apparently, the postprocessor fails every now and then when it writes to a network drive. Without mentioning it to me of course. Anyway, I'll just copy the files by hand. For the simple things that I have done so far there is no single error in the files anymore. |

| Cool. glad you got it going. Is your networked drive mapped? on a domain or workgroup? Is it a hybrid network? (Unix & Windows). There shouldn't be an issue with writing to a network drive. Unless it's the network itself that's hiccup'ing. If there is a problem with UGpost, I'd like to get it reported. Be Well

| What can I say about the network? It is a mess, a quick and dirty solution. I have a NAS, from there I have exported one directory using NFS and samba. Not the best way, but windows doesn't have NFS out of the box and I couldn't get the EMC pc to mount the drive with samba. So, I don't think UGS will help me out if I explain this. When I am back at work I will try if ugppost fails with drives that are shared and mapped with windows only. If so, I will definitely file an incident report. |
