I tried to download a cool dragon thing, but it said it was an EXE file. Is that normal?

I was wanting STL. EXEs are scary to me.

Hi There,

.STL files in the native uncompressed state can be VERY large. They DO compress well which means that a compressed format is better for distribution.

Due to the wide variety of compression / decompression utils available and the desire to make the files a widely accessible as possible, a SELF-EXTRACTING format is used. The end-user benefits from shorter download / lower bandwidth usage etc.. without having to then chase a decompression util.

I do understand the concerns when files are distributed in .exe format.. however, cnc4free.org downloads are always thoroughly scanned with latest sig updates before upload... they are read-only access on the server.. and only I can replace or upload ANY file to the public area.

cnc4free.org has regularly made about 40 files a month available for download since 2007... there have been gaps in the update schedule but there have been MANY files downloaded since the site started in December 2007... to date I am not aware of anyone EVER having suffered ANY kind of viral attack / infection from cnc4free.org downloads.
