Hello at all, first of all, sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian... I'm looking for a free or cheaper STL to GCode converter. I need it to convert jewelry STL files like the attached one to "standard" Gcode to load into my CNC machines drived by USBCNC (see www.usbcnc.com and Italian www.nextcnc.com). It's working with RS274 Standard GCode. I have already tried MecSoft FreeMill (free) and I'm now playing with 60 days evaluation version of MeshCam...but I'm not able to create good GCode. Both of them are generating wrong GCode (some missing shapes...). See attached .STL file and Gcode created by FreeMill and MeshCam. Please help me to find a good and "easy to learn" STL to GCode converter or tell me what I need to do with FreeMill and/or MeshCam to generate the right GCode. I'm using "General" post.processor with FreeMill and Basic_GCode(mm) with MeshCam. Both are good with USBCNC... Waiting for your reply ! Thank you and Best Regards, Vixon |

| The code looks OK to me, but the stepover is too large, and I'm guessnig the tool is too large. In order to cut that with MeshCAM (or freemill), you'll need to use a very small cutter and very small stepover. Ideally, the cutter would need to be at least 5 times smaller than the grooves in your cross.

| Thank you very much ger21 ! ...but when I load the Gcode (both, the one from FreeMill and the one from MeshCAM) into USBCNC software and also into other professional toolpath viewer, I do not see the right toolpath, for example all the holes into the middle of the cross are missing... I have already tried different times to set a very small cutter and very small stepover but the results did not change...the holes are always missing and also other milling are not present...I see only the contour of the cross and I do not see milling and holes inside it... Thank you and Best Regards, Vixon |
