First the requirement 1. it has to have a Post-processor for the Sherline Mill, EMC (CNC) that runs the g-code. What I mean is that the g-code that the CAM program make has to be able to run without any mod on the EMC CNC software to cut the part 2. make g-code from this part ![]() Is there anyone who can help me to find the software I need or somoene who has some experience in this area? It would be greate if someone could point me in the right direction. If somone would like to make a g-code from the stl file just to see how the It works, I could post it to you. What programs are other sherline owners using to make g-code ? Thanks Alf I have did it with MeshCAM, FreeMill, and since I don’t now how proper g-code has to look, I ‘m lost, I have to say that the code that MeshCAM made looked the best on the back plot, but It has errors. I looked at: www.hobbycadcam.com www.mecsoft.com www.microtech.se www.vectorcam.com www.webersys.com www.bobcad.com www.edgecam.com www.hsmworks.com www.mastercam.com www.solidcam2007.com www.deskam.com www.deskcnc.com www.microtech.se www.gsimple.gr www.stlwork.com www.mecsoft.com www.softsquad.com www.predator-software.com grzsoftware.com ACE Converter by DAK Engineering Som are real versions and som are demo versions and will not make g-code in demo mode. Other were too complex for me to be abel to make g-code or I could not make it work. Last edited by AlfSkaar; 08-03-2007 at 03:41 AM. Reason: space in url |

AlfSkaar why are you having problems, is it because you are expecting something for nothing, because that is what demo versions will give. You do not say why it is a STL file you want to machine, to create this file in a solid modeling software (WorkNC-CAD) should take no longer than 5 mins, and the same to generate the g-code for your machine (WorkNC) i will help you if you need, just send me the file |

| MeshCAM and Freemill are the wrong tools for that job. All you need is a 2D .dxf and something like SheetCAM, or an CAM that will create 2.5D toolpaths from a 3D model.

| Today i learn what conturing is.It might be easy for all off you but i'm like a small baby,I have to learn it.But I have to say this is a very interesting area( Cad, Cam, CNC.) And i have som ideas for what i can use it for.I can use this in my hobby or sports. The posibilities are endless. For instance in: RC racing, 12 scale only speed windsurfing skiing bicycle I have made a camera with a GPS in order to measure the speed in the Video (real time). I have already made two systems; one with cable and a wireless one. i use video sender from www.vtq.de And now i can make a proper box to put the camera and the controll stuff in :-) And it goes on :-) :-) Many thanks for the help Alf :-) |

| Today i talked to the the company that makes Vcarve Pro and during the phone call he actually made the g-code.I have to say that i'm very impressed by how fast he made it.It can also make tabs so it will not brake loss from the stock. I also talked for quite a long time with a guy that uses Master Cam befor I talked to "Vcarve Pro".He told me that he needed about 4 hours to make the g-code in Master Cam, he did make a small g-code program by hand, 23 lines of code to show me, and told me that this program cold possible be writen by hand. Thanks Alf :-) |

Alf, send what you have, or just a 2D sketch, drawing, iges, dxf, solid works, i use WorkNC for programming, and can out-put Gcodes to suit your needs |
