How does Bobcad stack up against the " premium " software packages out there. Im a firm believer in you get what you pay for and keep telling myself that there has to be a big catch somewhere I spoke with Bobcad a few months ago and they claim there will be a version that supports a full 5 vertical and 4 axis lathe... It looks like a outstanding deal IMHO but im looking for some real world un biased opinions before I bite.. Regards, Brian |

| Bobcad 2007 Vs X,Gibbs..etc Bobcad is an exellent package for 2-3 axis work the pro version has some of the best tool path availible. Yes, a 5 axis system may be possible for bobcad in the future but not any time soon although 4 axis lathe may or might be a reality this year. The low cost deal is a product of how the software is sold Bobcad sells direct to you not through a dealer and Bobcad also sells in high volume this also allows price breaks for the end user. If it is not 4 and 5axis work you need then you are just paying at a premium with other software packages. |

Best , not best, good ,not good. take a room full of CNC guys and ask them what is best and you will get 100 dferent answers, there is no right or wrong software, it is your application and patience that will show you which is best. If you are doing the occasional 2D job, your requirement will be different to the guy who is machining mould (also mold) tools with 4000 surfaces in pre-toughened steel. If your customer will accept some surface discrepancies, gouges and weld marks, then choose the cheapest, but if you cannot afford to make any mistakes, and time is a critical factor you must look at the reliable end of the market. but the price will also go to the top end. At the end of the day, what ever you purchase, it will work. This is because your PRIDE will make it. there are very few out there who will admit they PURCHASED a bad system. But there are a heck of a lot who know they have !!!!!! |
