Hey every one, if some one can lead me in the right path id be a happy man, Ok here it is, Im doing or trying to to do an art work called intarsia, Now I spent all my money on software that i can for now, I have Alibre design,silo2,cut3d,also beta moi, trial version of bobcad/cam.inkscape,My meshart ran out, which sucks because i didnt really try it out much, or should i say didnt have a clue how to use it lol.Im very close to finishing my machine so now i need to get started on doing my models. Now what id like to do is make a line drawing like stained glass pattern, Turn that into a 3d model and be able to cut out each piece and shape it at the same time or cut out each piece and then sculpt the whole thing as a carving. Any one know how to start this would be great if you can help. Thanks, frustrated Graham. ps, the cougar head is a piece i designed and did by hand, Dont want to do it like that no more, too long a process |

| You can probably get a new trial of MeshCAM Art by emailing Robert at www.meshcam.com You'd use an illustration package to import the picture into MeshCAM Art, and then manipulate it to what you want. I'm not sure if it would work for you, though, as it's not designed to do the multiple pieces you need. I don't think there is any package to simplify what you want. You'll need considerable skill in whatever package you choose to use. Sorry for not being able to help much.

| Thank you as always ger, ill try and as robert for a trial of meshart again, feel like an idot doing it. Well so far what ive tried is, i do a 3d model in moi, Have you ever tryed moi? So easy for newbies like my self, Any way I can break up each piece and save them on seperate files and cut create the gcode using cut3d. Now all I have to do is stick them together and mill it as a 3d carving.Just hope when I cut each piece out they will fit together tight. Its all cut out with .75" cedar so that alone is going to be tuff.Graham |

I have been cutting out inlay pieces and applying a surface profile with enroute. You draw the pieces and then cut and copy each individual piece. On layer one do a 2D toolpath and on layer 2 create and toolpath the reliefs. Cut layer 2 first and layer 1 second to make thing easier to hold. The software is terrible for drawing so I use Autocad for the basic drawing and parting of individual pieces. Not a cheap solution since Autocad runs $4000.00 and Enroute is $7000 or so. Enroute can also have problems with polyline ellipses and other geometry imported as a DXF. |
