3D Model to 2 1/2D?

I have a 3d model of my router mount. I designed it in solidworks but I'm not familiar with 2 1/2d but I know that is what I need to cut it out. What format do I save the model in or do I need to have just a line drawing like autocad of it for 2 1/2d? Also are there any free apps to generate toolpath for 2 1/2d? Thanks

Create a full scale drawing in Solidworks and save as a .dxf

Try meshcam
www.grzsoftware.com ( i think)
They give you 60 day trial.
And !!
also
a software called Simplycam - for simulation works great.
