I am planning on purchasing some reasonably priced point cloud software.

For me this is a hobby, so I am not looking for expensive solutions, just something that I can play around and experiement with.

I would appreciate any comments or recommendations.

Are you just looking to convert a point cloud into a mesh or some type of model?

If you have AutoCAD, I wrote a macro a few weeks ago that would take a point cloud from Mach3's probing wizard and create a mesh in AutoCAD with it.

I have Autocad 13 (Full Version) and an Autocad 2005 reverse engineered CAD program.

I was not aware that you had written a point cloud macro. Will it work with Ver. 13?

I am going to get a touch probe and wanted to be able to use the point cloud created.
