Best Software for 3d toolpaths | | Hello,
First, I am pretty new to this CNC thing...but I have extensive experience with AutoCAD and other CAD programs. My question is this... I need to be able to generate toolpaths (some with possible multiple cut layers) to carve 3D pieces out of a sign foam material. For example...if my part is 7" in relief and i have a 4" bit, i'll need to do one complete path and then another. I'd also like to do a rough pass to knock out most of the material and another to clean it up to save time. I recieved Rams3D with the machine we purchased but it seems somewhat limited to what I am trying to do. Also, I was told I cannot use 3D DXF files for this process and I have to convert all these to SLT files. This seems silly to me because you lose all the vector information when you do this I believe. However, i did do this and successfully import into RAMS. Anyways, can anyone suggest the best CAM software for this type of work? Of course, I'll also need the standard capability of being able to knock out parts out of sheet stock, but thats easy!
Thnx,
