    total line length program?

does anyone know of a program that will tell me the total line lenght of a dxf file, or a gcode program.

i would like to know the total length of the lines in a file. or a program that will read gcode and tell me the the same thing. or the total cut time with a given a feed rate.

Many CAD/CAM programs will give this information, like Mastercam. I'm not aware of any programs that only do that without CAM. I suppose you could write a script to evaluate such data, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

You might look for backplotters, (an app that reads g-codes and displays the toolpath). Something like that might have what you're looking for.

    OneCNC NCSentry

    Hi Joe,

OneCNC NCSentry is just such a stand alone program.

It will read in the G code file and give you line length, cut time, feed line length, rapid line length, etc.

It will also simulate the part with stock. Live rotate the rendering.... It also has Collision detection.

It works for both mills and lathes in the same program.

There is a trial version available.

You can get to it by clicking on the OneCNC banner add on the home page of this forum.

You can do this in Microsoft Word easily, or just about in any word processing software.

buscht, I think what he's looking for is something to read the length of the moves in inches/mm, not count the number of lines of code in the program.

    i.e.
    X0 Y0
    G91
    X1.
    Y1.
    X2.

would have a length of 4". (The length the tool travels)

I had to take a double look at it too, I almost said the same thing you did.
