First time user.... please be gentle! Looking for the best turning software... ie fast, complete, good support with a future. We are a job shop that does many large parts for many different customers. I'm tired of NICAM. I want full control if necessary but automated simple tasks. Import of geometry is a must. We are picky about output so a strong flexable postprocessor is a must. Give me your top choices and why and I'll do the benchmarks. I use Camax for milling so we'll talk about that later.

| Hi danb, We use Geopath CAD/CAM (Mill and Lathe). It is definitely very simple to use and it works really great on our Lathe controls. We have a Haas and Okuma Lathes. Our Okuma has live-tooling and the software is capable of handling that. The posts are user modifyable and they can be easily edited. We do the editing ourselves. We attended one of the post-processor classes to learn the basics, but after that it is easy. Check them out at www.solution-ware.com. It might not be the one you want, but it is working great for us. Goodluck in your search ![]() Al3azim |

| Bro, Have a look at a program called Dolphin. They do a stand alone lathe program as opposed to it being a 2 axis cut down version of a mill program. Supports all normal turning features and full tool offsets. You can import dxf files into it and also specify an outside shape if you are using castings or forgings so you dont do a lot of air cutting. Web site at http://www.dolphin.gb.com/ Comes with about 30 post processors and they are in simple text and the post program comes with the software, nothing extra to pay. If you get stuck they will alter the post for free. John S. |
