How about a converter that would take the smartcam file and change them into Iges? Of course you would loose the tool paths that is for sure.
But I have a converter for the first part of my statment.

Can't you export your part files as igs, parasolid...? I'm not familiar with Smartcam but I assume all cam systems can at least export part files as an igs format.
I am not familar with samartcam eather the company
that i work for is using it and thinking of changing to gibbs
and u can here all kinds of promises from salesmen.
thats why i ask here also.

Open up Smartcam and see what kind of files you can save as or export to. Igs is the most common format that is used by nearly all cad & cad/cam software for the past decade or so.
Part files with no surfaces (geometry only) will need to be exported/saved as a dxf file.
If you want to be sure it will export into Gibbs you can email a file to me and I'll open it up and send back a screen shot to you so you can see what it looks like. I'm a Gibbs user.
Whatever system your company eventually gets you will probably need a couple coffee breaks to get all those files exported and imported. If time is a consideration you may want to try a cad service that can convert all those files for you.
Or later when I can get a moment I will move over the converter to the FTP,the one I was stating earler that will do a hole dir.Whatever system your company eventually gets you will probably need a couple coffee breaks to get all those files exported and imported. of smartcam files for you.
And if the files are 2d and do not contain surfaces you can still use iges if you want.
