Hi, I was wondering if you can use the Cd-rom drive to get files off of a CD and import them into your Hard drive in DOS. I am running Turbocnc, so this would save a lot of time so that I don't have to load windows. How would I copy off of the cd and import into the harddrive? Is this possible? Is yes, what would the commands be. Thank you. Sanghera |

| I think you need the MS-DOS drive utility MSCDEX.EXE, if you do a search there is usually alot of info regarding DOS still, including a loadable DOS 7.1 with long file name support. The CD just looks like another drive, keep in mind, when you write a CD it usually sets the files to read-only. Al.

| Bulletin: DOS will READ a CDROM via MSCDEX but will NOT write via MSCDEX (ver 6.22 and below anyway). Furthermore, I've yet to find a CDROM that works with DOS that will WRITE to a CDROM via DOS and I"ve been looking for some tiem. All the read/write CDROM's I've seen need 98SE and above to work.... If you find one that will READ AND WRITE VIA DOS, please advise ASAP!!! |

| Until you run it in Windows where multitasking is possible, you can't do it in DOS UNLESS You figure out how to make the program work while in DOSSHELL or a similar program. However, depending on the memory allocation/useage of TCNC, you might NOT be able to run DOSSHELL. We tried to do this with our ExTrak for exact same reason and it could NOT be done due to the memory allocation scheme of the 'Trak program. Once 'Trak started running, it took COMPLETE and exclusive control of the O/S and you couldn't multitask or even psuedo multi-task. |

| Guys, Sanghera didn't say anything about CD burning, why are you confusing him? -Run MSCDEX.EXE (or put it in your autoexec.bat) Now you should be able to see the CD-ROM in DOS (e.g. D:\ ) -Type "copy D:\directory\file C:\directory\file" -In TCNC open the C:\directory\file and run it Nikolas |

| Al: thanks for the link but, alas, it was a link that was only filled with false hope.... The Mitsumi link sadly reports the following: "...This software only allows "MS_DOS Mode" (Does not work in MS_DOS Prompt). For Windows 98 User or available the DOS environment user Only..." The search for a CDROM R-RW that will burn from MSDOS (without Windoze of any kind) continues.... |
