| For just 2d stuff, Intellicad and a9cad work great, they are both almost identical to autocad. Take a look at the site ynneb posted. both of those programs can give you a dxf to put into something like sheetcam or lazycam. I think intellicad is a little closer to autocad than a9cad with everything there. Alibre free would probably be the best FREE 3d modeling software, although you'll have to be connected to the internet to use it. Jon

| Does anyone have knowledge of ONECNC products. I am quite new to milling but wish to get my hands dirty. I have a good Vmc but it needs to be s/ware driven. I have extensive experiance in 3D CAD working with mostly complicated prismatic shapes typically in the optical instrument market. I think i'm after a cam system allowing me flexibility in programming to be the strategy commander. The Mill Advantage 2 1/2D package looks tempting. I'm a fussy person. I will be very concerned with any chatter /finish marks and really believe in the beauty of a fine machined part. The price seems good. The aspects of visual simulation /verification in machining make OneCnc very appealing. My question is... should i believe the marketing? I am effectively new to machining - of course experiance can't be bought and i'm going to make many many mistakes along the way. Is OneCnc a good choice or can anybody make other suggestions. Thanks alot for any replys. i appreciate it! Tim from UK ps IronCad has often been considered. I like the basic low cost and the fact that it's works as either a parametric or dynamic modeller. There's nothing quite like it out there.I have a more complete expansive solution in Onespace designer modelling but i could easily do with IronCad. Just check out their gallery - pretty impressive eh? |
