Question Text programs

There must be some place were a guy can get programs for text. I have a old VF-1 and it dident come with "text" ability.
I dont want to purchase any high $ softwere, I only want to engrave some fancy or funkey or ? lettering that dont look meahanical. I'm thinking that someone may have come up with a "text" book or something (better that I can copy and paste) that will give the G-code so that I dont have to figure it out myself, yah know.

If you have CAM software, you could convert text using a raster to vector translator, (Wintopo is a free one that works well with line art) and do your engraving that way.

Otherwise, macros might be the answer.

Having pre-defined g-codes for this would be iffy at best, as the likelyhood of it being the right size, shape etc would be slim unless you did them yourself.

BTW, Welcome to the forum!

I agree, DeskEngrave is a good cheap (free I think) text maker.

Just one word of caution - Test your program to make sure the size of the letters is correct, because it (the program) does not always listen to what you tell it. Also, if I remember correctly, the placement of the zero point is kinda funky, and changes with every font.

Other than that, have fun.
