Hey all

I have friend who runs a waterJet table. He asked if I knew of any way of taking an object for instance a 1 foot square metal plate with holes and slots already cut and drilled into it. Then automaticly capturing it into CAD.
I remember seeing what to me looked like an electronic DTI attached to the Z axis of a cnc machine and then set to scan across the object.With the DTI interfaced to a PC. I cannot find this webpage any more and wondered if you guys could point me in the right direction for this information and also if you know other methods for achieving this??
