| My opinion on question #1. Whenever I need dxf files from a client, I always ask for a file save in R12. It's a basic dxf format, without any autocad dependent features. Not all cad programs can open the newer AutoCad formats. The R12 is more generic in nature. |

| If you want to convert g-code to dxf, you need a software package that will allow you to do that. The only "cost effective" programs that will allow you to do that (that I know of) is bobcad, vector XT and DeskCNC, mind you I said "Cost Effective". There are others that will do it but the price is too high IMO. I am not aware of any freeware packages that will convert g-code to dxf. There are however shareware packages that will convert DXF to g-code and they work well and I recommend supporting these guys, they produce very basic g-code I know, but to those out there who are doing simple stuff, it may be all you need. If you want an all in one that will convert your g-code to dxf or take your 3-d or 2-D designs and allow you to toolpath them to obtain your desired g-code output, then you will need a cad-cam package seperate to autocad. If that is the way you want to go, then it would be my advice to post your questions on the various packages available to the CNC Zone forums to help you choose the right one. All of them are good in their own way but you will need to decide what you want to do with your software and how much you are willing to spend.
