Hi there, Does anyone know anything about Edgecam 9.5? What sort of capabilities does this software have? Would it be able to do 4 axis milling (continuous or indexing 4th axis), or is it one of those programs that needs extra bits added on to get those capabilities? Anyone with any experience with this software? Thanks Warren

| It is a program that I may be considering in the future due to its integration with SolidWorks but in general a lot of the guys here are DIY home shops and don't usually use such pricey software. I was hoping you got more response as well so I could have some more info. Cheers

| hello going on training for edgecam soon have used it a bit in demo mode (tutorials etc) its solidworks intergration being key to our operation, it however (initally) seems cumbersome ,compared to others iv'e used ,so we'll see what transpires. |

| I have been using edgecam for 5+ years now. Unfortunetly I don't get to do any fancy milling, or anything so I have not learned how. I am 99% sure it can do it and do it well. I actually really like edgecam. I have not got the solids to machine correctly but it is within my knowledge on how, not necc. the software. |

| I use edgecam on a daily basis, and yes it is great for doing 4 axis machining, and 5 axis positional machining, ie, not the greatest at simultaneous 5 axis. I use it to machine solid models with little problems. We have 8 programmers where i work, and all of them used some other cam system before they started using edgecam, and all of them say edgecam is much easier once you learn to use it, especialy compared to mastercam and 4 axis programming. It is also MUCH easier to configure your own post processor with edgecams code wizard. I can honestly say that we NEVER make hand edits to our programs, and we have over 40 different posts, everything from old ass Lodge & Shipply's to brand new Haas mills. I demo'd OneCNC a few weeks ago, and I can say there is no comparison. Its like comparing a Mustang to a Ferrari, Mustang's rock, but they are no Ferrari. The one bad side, and I mean BAD side to EdgeCam is the price. See the pricing below....... EN302-0 EdgeCAM Entry Turning $ 3,000.00 2D and 3D Design. 2 Axis Turning. Code Wizard, Text Editor, ToolStore, Job Reports, Toolkit Assistant, Technology Assistant, Job Manager, RS232 Communications, Simulator Lite and Utilities. IGES, DXF and DWG loaders. Whish I could have the fortune to work on EdgeCam again. Working on CamWork at the moment. Well it doesn't works if you compare it to Edge. Worked on Edge for 5 years. |
