Not a CAM question, but no better forum...

I need to edit some STL files to remove portions of the mesh. Does anyone have a piece of software that can do this for me for a fee? I know RapidWorks and Magics will do it, and there are other solutions, but they are all way outside of my budget. The edits I need to make are very easy basically straight line cuts. I need to turn a single model in to 5-6 pieces. Please post if you can assist, or e-mail me at mike(at)mcpii(dot)com

I think Meshlab does what you need and is freeware. http://meshlab.sourceforge.net/

You can also try Netfabb (Google it). Good luck...

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Downloading MeshLab now. Netfabb Pro might work, but it's over $900. The free version does not look flexible enough to do what I want. I may give it a shot if MeshLab doesn't do what I need.

If anyone else has other suggestions, please post up! I am also willing to pay someone to make a few changes if you have access and skills to do this one-time (for now) job for me...

blowlamp/Martin - THANK YOU!!! I had seen the MeshLab site before, but I guess I didn't grasp what it could do. This is a PERFECT solution to my needs, and FREE to boot!
