Does anyone out there have any expirence with UG? If so, what can I expect to have to deal with as far as implementing it into the machining aspects of the company? Engineering has switched to the system, and they want us to implement the manufactoring application within UG into the automation departments. So far it seems like it has a lot of abilities, but its almost too much. I am used to mastercam and artcam for our machines, what can I expect to be similiar and what is oging to be completely different? |

| I have used Unigraphics in a former life at another company. UG will do anything you need. Yes it is too much power for what you need to do on the CAM side, but hey, you got the Power to do most anything. As far as similar, it is a CAM system with the same bells and whistles as most CAM systems. What's different is that it is based on APT programming language, at least the versiion I used was. You do not need to know the APT language because of the great GUI interface. But you might need to know it when you start editing / developing the post processors for the machines. My suggestion is to begin with Profiles of the machines you are writing for. Include the most common tools and routines in them and save it so when you start a project, everything is there and all you have to do is select the tool, define the toolpaths, and post process !! Good luck and enjoy the power of UG, |
