    Precision insert tolerance?

I'm designing a part, that requires a bearing insert. What would be the rule of thumb, when it comes to how precise to make the whole insert. My bearing outer diameter is 2.437 inches, and the laser tolerance is .02, Would I just increased the size of the hole by .02 to get it so it's a snug tight fit.

I assume his is in plastic? Ideally you would want the hole to be exactly the same size or just a bit smaller for a snug fit (maybe 0.0005-0.001"). Obviously you are not going to get that precision with a laser so you need to either make the hole too big and fill it with glue or something or you will have to make it to small and use a file or something to fit it properly. If you really cared you could have someone with a milling machine bore the hole to the proper size. More details would be helpful. Whats the material, whats it for, etc.

In that case the only option I see is to have the hole bored to the proper size using a mill. You cannot expect a laser cut hole to directly accept a bearing.

Bearings must be fit to the dimensional tolerances supplied by the manufacturer. Most have an online catalog with a tech section that has the information you need.
