The base 2D format for drawings is DXF. As long as your CAD software can output DXF you are good to go there. The base 3D format is IGS. If you are going to be doing 3D surfacing, your CAD will need to handle outputting to this format also.
For CAM, you will need to be able to import the formats from your CAD. CAM is where you select or create tool paths, select the tools, and then output to the code needed for your machine control. Your CAM will need to have a post-processor for your machine.
