Hey all! Thanks for your ongoing efforts!

Vegipete, I think with your post # 19 and your remark about improving motion trajectory and/or adequate output from Softimage you hit the mark for me: the motion data I create in Softimage (and subsequently the coordinates in the xml-file) is very precise, I want to use that exactly as it is. Smoothing or interpolation in a third party conversion process is what I want to avoid at all costs. And I can see I have all the data I need already within my xml (and it's not that hard to convert it into another format as long as its ascii lines-with-coordinates). So I would prefer a method with as few steps in between as possible.

I'm in contact with Gerald Thompson (see post #16) at http://www.bfg-motion.com/ who's done a combination of software and hardware for (stopmotion) cameracontrol from CGI for motion pictures. In other words, exactly what I want to do. It turns out he's using an industry motion control standard known as 'Kuper'-code (Kuper being a manufacturer of this type of equipment for big studios). Which turns out to be another variation on Gcode/my xml-example/ascii-lines-with-coordinates.

I got examples from him and a trial of his software so I'm going to experiment with that now. Will report later (or come back asking for advice )

No interpolation requies custom software ..I think

    Hi There,

If you want to avoid any interpolation.. then you're almost definitely going to need something like the 'custom' solution you're looking into. Pretty much any means to do this using gcode (that I'm aware of) would result in interpolation of the spline in the code.

    Hope you get it sorted...

    Convert 3D animation to Gcode

in windows, you extract it an put in a folder useful to you, e.g. c:\Programs\gcode2vtk

You right click any gcode file, say open or open with, choose program, and browse for "c:\Programs\gcode2vtk\gcode2vtk.exe".

Then any time you double click a gcode file, it will be converted to a ".gcode.vtk" file.
