My computer was stolen lost all CAD files

I am looking to find a back ploting program. I have all my g-codes. I am hoping there is something that will get me back to some type of cad/wire frame drawing. I use Bobcad V23 and Solidworks. Does anyone have any ideas.

And yes I will back up my stuff more offen, lesson learned.

are they 2d or 3d files? 2d files you can, 3d you cant... "tool size, offsets, etc are just too difficult to account for"

thats a huge bummer...idk if you use a laptop or a desktop but i can send you some backup software that is opensource and very reliable. i back up a good portion of my important files to a network drive thats hidden in my house. i also mirror the data between the laptop, desktop, network storage..i hate losing data!

They are a mix of both 2d and 3d. Nothing too crazy a lot of router work. It was a laptop that was stolen and I will be replacing it with a desktop. I like your network idea

    it absolutely does!

s series, gibbscam 2010 and solidworks both work and are amazingly fast esp when rotating 3d drawings

z series, same as above but gibbscam is sluggush if you dont have the power media dock plugged in (external graphics card) but solidworks is flawless without the PMD

i bought the s series and 1 month later the z series came out so i bought that and sold the s series to the family member....both laptops are GREAT!!!! the s series is around 4lbs with the sheet battery, i got over 16 hours of battery life

the z series i get the same battery life however its only 3lbs with the sheet battery and damn its thin.... the entry model of the z series is like $2000 plus extended warranty and might as well buy ram to get up to 8gb...

i also got the gobi2000 internal wireless card...basically you can stick your cellular SIM card into the laptop and connect to the internet with it...no dongles or tethering phones anymore...

I will look into that laptop. Sounds fast. So is there a program I can buy to reverse my G-code?

i know there is an application you can use and ill do some research to find it for you after this online chess tournament. if you get the Z series from sony...i promise you that you will be happy...it is the best laptop ive ever owned...

lets face it i appreciate a good computer setup...notice the Z series on the desk with the sheet battery installed

This doesn't help your current problem, but I strongly recommend the use of an online service like Dropbox. That syncs files from your machine to a hosted service, and can be shared across multiple computers. Even if your computer gets stolen in future, you'll still have your critical files available.

those services are nice and work very well...im just paranoid about who has access to my data. with the pricing of colocations going way down ive thought about colocating a 1u server that would be attached via secure vpn to my home network just for offsite backup purposes...certainly overkill for the normal home user
