Would this be a good beginner cad software

Would this be a good beginner cad software for someone with absolutely no experience in milling or cad/cam operations??

    DesignCAD 3D MAX Version 21

The reason I ask is it's on sale at my local Fryes electronics for $50.00 with a $50.00 mail in rebate and it's something cheap to get some practice on to get familiar with basic operation and have full access to support and training so I can try out some demo cad's to see which one I like better

I started with DesignCAD V3 about 18 years ago. It as about $180 for the 2D only version, and $500 for the 3D version.

It's a very capable package for the money.

But honestly, for 2D drawings, I'd look at the free Draftsight.

I personally started with Alibre Design, can be as cheap as $199 and does 2D and 3D and is a very nice package. It is also upgradable if you need more functions.

DesignCAD is a very capable drafting package. I used it in combination with RainCad to design irrigation systems for years.

It's also very useful in combination with SheetCam for designing work for a mill/drill or router.

    It is good software.

In recent times I've graduated to Aspire but there is a big price difference.

    hey jhowelb

I downloaded and registered draft sight and then OMG....Swym is their community, wth is with that? I cant figure it out, do they not have simple member forums. If they dont that alone is going to cause me not to use it because they just make it too much of a PITA to find info. Also experienced issues with their coordinate system...I have to move the crosshair very slow for it to regiseter, if I move crosshair normaly coordinates dont register until I come to a stop and it finally catches up. Is this normal? Also...i cant manipulate my part around in graphic area to look at different views (like 3-D) like I could in bobcad/cam. Is this normal?

I looked around here and even posted in our forums here to see if we had a draftsight cad forum...havent found one and havent gotten any replies from my post.
