I got the help I needed locally through a friend that has a memorial company. Thanks anyhow and I'll think of here first next time a big job comes through!
Hello,
I posted a few days ago on an engravers forum I am a member of and was not able to get much help. What a dork for not thinking of here until now and I need to turn the quote in as soon as I am able to today, had hoped to earlier.
I've been contacted to quote for a Donor's Plaque made of soapstone and the plaque will be provided. It is 39" wide, 62" tall, and 1.75" thick. there are 513 letters 1" tall over 23 lines. The letters are to be cut with a 45 degree v-bit, then gold leafed.
the process I will have to follow with my equipment capabilities are that I will mask the stone and lasercut the text to create a soft stencil and mildly mark the stone with the lettering. Then I am creating an acrylic hard stencil to use as a safety measure when I hand carve the lettering using a dremel type rotary tool with the v-bit. I will use a depth guage for uniformity.
finally, I will apply the adhesive and gold leaf, then seal the gold leaf and it's finished. Giving myself 3 minutes per letter to hand cut, and 3 minutes per letter to gold leaf, as well as other time for lasering and prep work I ended up with 81 hours total and my normal shop fees for custom engraving are $75.00 an hour. This came up totallinig $6075.00.
I do NOT want to under price myself, but this could be the beginning of regular higher dollar work from this source and I need to consider that. I have accurately estimated time for everything except the 3 minutes per letter stuff in the last paragraph and that is because I simply am not sure, so have initially put it down as more time than I think it will take me.
ANY help in the next hour would be GREAT appreciated.
Many thanks,
Stan
