Do You Know Anyone In The Delivery/Courier Service Business?

I live in Houston, TX and I plan on purchasing a delivery cargo van or box truck. My goal is to deliver medium sized goods to commercial businesses and work as an independent contractor. My quesion is whether or not you or someone you may know does this for a living. If so, do you make good money and is it profitable? Additionally, I am aware of the fuel costs, insurance costs, etc associated with this business.
